Sault - KM 0 Inauguration
From now on, access to the Giant of Provence begins with a powerful symbol in Sault. Marked in front of the Tourist Office, a 50cm high rough strip, earth-colored with 2 inscriptions painted in white, marks the official start of the climb to one of the most mythical peaks in world cycling.
This creation responds to a recurring demand from cyclists looking for a visual landmark to immortalize the start of their climb and kick off their challenge.
This initiative also finds its legitimacy in the figures. With 166,247 bicycle crossings recorded in 2025 on the 3 slopes of Ventoux between April and November, 1 in 3 cyclists ascended via Sault, which stands out as the 2nd gateway to the Giant after Bédoin and ahead of Malaucène.
If this climb is so appealing, it is because it offers the most gradual access to the summit: 26,2 km, 1210 meters of elevation gain and an average gradient of 4.6%.
The RD164 is the road of wisdom, of beauty, the one that crosses the lavender landscapes before reaching the lunar landscape of Mont Ventoux.
A less demanding climb, therefore, which attracts trained cyclists, occasional cyclists, amateurs, not forgetting fans of electric bikes.
